The fair is considered to be one of the biggest events in the Chennai cultural calendar along with the Chennai music season. In recent times, several internationally renowned movies have been filmed at the venue of the fair. The fair has been recently upgraded to the global level and the first edition of the international book fair will be held in January 2023, providing an opportunity for bibliophiles in Chennai to meet their favorite international authors and Nobel laureates. The Chennai International Book Fair is co-organized by TNTBESC (The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation) and BAPASI. The international pavilion will give an opportunity for foreign authors to exhibit and promote their book, national culture and meet the leading Tamil publishers. The international fair will also have an event called ‘rights hub’ where participants including publishers, literary agents and authors, can buy or sell rights of books. In the past editions, the fair had presented the visitors with not only a gigantic collection of books but also multimedia stalls with educational CDs and DVDs and camps for diabetes, asthma and blood donation to create awareness.
